The Fall Away Series by Penelope Douglas has been one of my all time favorites. When I saw Next To Never release, not only was I surprised but also thrilled. I thought the series was over until the next generation was ready to take over the pages. Next To Never brings the series full circle and also introduces the readers to the next generation, who are screaming for their place on the pages.It all begins with Quinn Caruthers. Quinn is about to begin senior year of high school and hasn't really committed herself to one thing. She has always done what she's been told, kept busy in all the extra curricular activities, and was basically a " yes " girl. She is questioning her life and the choices coming in the future. Her mother and father want her to attend a certain college and are encouraging her to go the extra mile to get in. It's not that she doesn't want to go but she never thought about what other options she has. What else is out there? What does she really want to do? One thing always seems to stand out when she thinks about it. An abandoned garage on Main St. This empty building has so much potential and needs to come alive once again. Maybe she can change it's future when she finally finishes hers. Her life is full of questions and her dreams are unrealized. Her future is mapped out for her until something unexpected happens. She receives an anonymous novel in the mail. There is no return address. The only clue she has is the postmark is from Canada. Once she opens the book it's going to change her course in life and her perspective on everything she thought she knew.
What begins as an intriguing forbidden romance novel evolves into something more. The characters begin to take on a life themselves. They begin to become more and more familiar to her. By the time she finishes the novel she realizes she has known these people all her lives. Their story is not what she believed it to be. This novel not only changes her perspective on those she loves, it also inspires her to reach for the stars and build her own dreams. It is the defining moment for her life.
As the story unfolds, the readers get a true introduction of the next generation of Trents and Caruthers. Each of these dynamic teenagers have their own strong personalities and paths to follow in life. They are going to face their own struggles just as their parents had to. They are screaming to get on the pages.

Reviewed For I'm A Sweet And Sassy Book Whore
It is well known that I have loved the Fall Away series ever since the first time I read Bully because let’s face it I have read this entire series multiple times. There are certain characters that we saw throughout the books but never got their story and I love the way that Ms. Douglas has written this book. It is a book within a book.
I cried more than once while reading because you sit back and remember things from the previous books and you get more understanding and closure. We also get to see our favorite guys and their women as well as their kids and I can’t wait to finally read more about Jared, Maddox and Jax’s kids. I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe at one point in the book because I could so picture it happening but I envisioned it being others who did it, read it you will understand what I mean once you do.
This series is one of my go to series when I need a pick me up or when I am missing their stories and Next To Never was a perfect addition and one that I can’t wait to read again. Ms. Douglas you once again have this book whore’s love, then again you never lost it so, but you continue to amaze me with how much I love each book you write. Next To Never is a must read but make sure you have read the previous books in the series first.
Quinn Caruthers has lived a very sheltered life and followed the rules like any good girl would do. She's got parents and brothers who hover over her protectively and now that she's almost done with high school, she's beginning to think she might want to truly spread her wings and fly. She sees how all of her family members have carved out a niche or place for themselves and Quinn wants to make her own mark that is not through a nudge from someone else.
And when she gets a mysterious book in the mail and begins to read, Quinn realizes that sometimes the best things in life came from a long and hard earned battle with scars to bear. That book that Quinn is reading? I smiled really big internally when I realized whose story it was. After being such a fan of the Fall Away series for over 3 years now, this felt like the last piece of the puzzle in terms of completing the character picture of the cast before moving forward. It definitely helped me to see 2 characters in a different light, as well as young Madoc and Jared through a more parental lens. Before, I viewed the parents through Madoc's and Jared's perspectives and can now appreciate their flaws and struggles that paved the way to be the better versions of themselves today. They can't change the past, but they strive to do their very best from the present onwards.
Quinn and her nieces and nephews are all growing up into adults and there's a fabulous glimpse of what kind of people they are turning into with potential future storylines. That conversation that a furious Madoc has with all of the kids together as he says his piece? Priceless. Love that scene, the tension and emotion really ramps up wonderfully. As for Quinn, I'm eager to see her go after her own goals and dreams, which will hopefully include Lucas. Can't wait for their story! This was the perfect bridge piece between the previous characters and the upcoming ones.
