Schildbach clearly knows how young people think. His prose captures the inner workings of the young boys' minds; the reader is not simply watching them as along side them. This was a ton of fun to read and makes me want a do-over of my childhood.
I just finished The Summer of Fort Billy. I downloaded it and software to my work computer some time back. I found 5 minutes here and there to get into it, reading through a fog of distracting thoughts. Today something clicked and I read non-stop for 90 minutes until I finished. I forgot about work and pressing responsibilities. I put on my jean jacket and tennis shoes and jumped a ditch to hang out with friends. I was sorry that they had to move on. I can't wait for the sequel.
Loved this book, it was a time of life to remember and be challenged by. Teenage choices, adventures and challenges from a young man's vantage point. A time to make mistakes and be granted opportunity, love and forgiveness through people who mirror Jesus' love.
"The Summer of Fort Billy" is an engaging read. The characters are deftly drawn and Schildback's dialog authentically captures the adolescent voice. Adults will enjoy the pleasure of revisiting summer days of yore, and for teens the story will resonate with the risks and choices they face as they grow toward adulthood.
I just finished reading The Summer of Fort Billy; what an enjoyably story! I could totally relate to the characters and could picture the story as I read it. It is a great book for young and old alike. Thanks for writing it. I look forward to your next book!
I absolutely loved this book. It was very well written and captured the voice of it's adolescent characters perfectly. It flowed very nicely and I enjoyed the author's ability to take me back to my summer fort days with his descriptive language. It was the perfect spring day read for this adult but would also be perfect for the younger audience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This book was a well written, entertaining read; fun for kids and adults! Read to enjoy the mysteries and adventures of a young boy, and to appreciate the delightful writing style and sly sense of humor the author weaves throughout.
