Four years ago I lost my virginity on live, streaming television.

Too bad I wasn’t awake for it.

The video went viral. Of course it would. A Senator’s daughter on camera? Wouldn’t you click “share”? Besides, that’s what three of the four guys in the video did.

Share.

They shared me.

But that fourth guy? The nondescript one in the background in the upper left corner of the screen, just sitting on the couch? The only one who did nothing?

Not one single thing.

That was my boyfriend, Drew.

And that was the last time I saw him.

Until today, when my father—now on a path to the White House—hired him as head of security for my new team as I return home after four years of “recovering” in an undisclosed location that involved white lab coats, needles, pills and damage control.

You see, the other three guys never went to jail. Never had charges pressed.

Never faced consequences.

Until today.

Game on.

A Harmless Little Game is the first in this political thriller/romantic suspense trilogy by USA Today bestselling author Meli Raine.

I had issues with this book. The first being it should clearly state this is more a serial then a novel. You get no conclusion at all. Just a continuation into the next book that is out in November and then another in December. If it stated this no problem buy and then wait to read until they are all out. I don't like waiting.

I also had issues with some holes in the plot.

Plot point 1 - she was 19 when this happened. She was sent "away" to recover and basically held against her will for 4 years until her father needs her for his election campaign. I'm 1000% positive you can't legally institutionalize someone without going to court deeming them unfit. None of this happens.

Plot point 2 - Drew ships off and serves time in the military and is out and has his own business. Well respected and all. It's been 4 years how did you manage to serve 4 years in the military, leave, and have a protection business that is highly regarded in just 4 years. If this were 10 years later fine but not 4.

Plot point 3 - None of the men who violated Lindsay were ever charged. Okay happens all the time. That I can believe. What I don't believe is that the cops and the DA decide she wanted it because the boys and some girls said she wanted it. They NEVER interviewed Lindsay. They can't legal close a case without interviewing the accuser. CAN"T HAPPEN. They can sit down listen to what she said happen and still say it was all fun and games but they would still talk with her.

Plot point 4 - This one really ticks me off. One of the reasons stated as to why the DA opted out was because the rape counselor went to the media saying she wasn't raped. Supposedly this person was never punished. The person violated HIPAA. That person would lose their license and have a massive lawsuit against them for speaking out. This person instead received a 6 figure payout from the networks for their story. Nope. The media is many things but I highly doubt they would pay for a story like that since they would then be part of the lawsuit.

I guess I just don't understand why she wouldn't stand up and tell her side of the story. Write a book, find a reporter, or start a freaking blog to tell her side. She had her medical records to share. There aren't a lot of people who would hear the condition she was in and believe she agreed to have that done to her. There were people who were there who told a different story then the rapists and mean girls. Let them come out and tell there side. Yes it is a he said she said but at least your advocating for yourself. Instead she has these unnamed plans to get even but still is be shamed for what she "agreed" too.

A Harmless Little Game Harmless #1 edition by Meli Raine Romance eBooks Reviews

This serial (it's not a complete book....the three together are barely a comprise a book ) was just awful. The words that ran through my head throughout were Improbable, Ridiculous, Unlikely, Preposterous, and Annoying, The other negative reviews say it all. I won't repeat what they said about the improbability of Drew becoming a security expert four years after graduating West point. Ridiculous! Or about the unlikeliness of being held against her will on an island (really? so ridiculous) menatl institution. It was just so extreme and childsh. She was violated by friends? And all her friends turn against her? What was their motivation? They are all supposedly from rich families. So the liklihood of them accepting a bribe from a politician was ridiculous. I resented the fact that this was a serial and that the first two end in cliff hangers. The author is clearly trying to to make more money this way. It is just dishonest. I felt manipulated. Stick with tried and true authors who have proabable plots and complete novels.
The big surprise is the book has no ending! A real cliff hanger. Disappointing to say the least.
I have read many exceptional authors but Melissa Raine is another scam author write a story and finish it. It's a Novella not a book now I know why your first book was free . Write a complete novel then publish it as in the Authors who are recognized for their realism and honesty. No one wants cliff hangers they love additions to a story. If I wanted a cliffhanger I would watch tv. First and last book of this author less than 1star
When I read a book I expect a complete story not a partial story that makes you buy more to complete.
The writer has obviously never read a book or she would know that this is a SEGMENT. Please let us know when you become an author and not a mercenary. I'd recommend Nora Roberts, Tom Clancy, Danielle Steele, and Patricia Cornwell as a beginner's list for your journey toward learning what a complete story is. The potential is there, please don't destroy your gift and alienate your readers for the sake of a fast buck.
I absolutely HATE a cliffhanger! This book was well written right up til the end when it just abruptly stops. It was like the author just chopped a longer book into pieces so we would have to buy all the pieces to finish the story. Yes, I know the title has a #1 indicating the are other books on the series bit I feel like Raine could have done a better job with the ending of this book. If you hate cliffhangers don't waste your time on this book (or rather partial book).
