Jerome Brooke's Mirage and selected poems is curiously reminiscent of the 19th century Romantics, especially themes of Keats, with a passionate linkage of man and nature. Yet the poems are grounded in a 21st century sensibility that touches our inner despair as we recede further from the natural world.
This poetry is deep, portraying life and death in days long ago. To read this collection, one must read each poem and digest what it tells us. Readers often associate their lives with the written words. I wasn't able to do this, yet I found much to be admired in Brooke's poetry.

I must say I have never really been a fan of poems but Jerome Brooke's and this book has taught me that I need to read more poetry. They were so mesmerising some I even read twice. Every one of those short poems has a long story hidden inside it and after you read one you know everything there is to know. The scenery the story everything is known in just a few words.
Jerome brooke is an amazing writer. Everything is just perfect. I love every word of his writing, and can't put it down until it is finished. I have found no errors in the grammar and writing and the plot and everything else is brilliant. Thank you for letting me read and review this book I loved it.

A very well written set of lots of paranormal or schifi type short poems. Easy to read/follow, never a dull moment. No grammar errors, repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Great scenarios & groups of characters. Very easy for me to give the set of short poems 5 stars.

The collection of verses from Jerome Brooke's book Mirage, is gloriously depicted using a blend of nature, emotions, and picturesque language to draw the reader into a realm of the sensations of life, love, death, the wildness of Mother Nature, and life outside one's own realm.
Mr. Brooke, has all the makings of a master, for he pulls the reader deep inside the wonder that life is both past and present.
There is a delightful flow that enables one to feel both the loss of pride, (though she is not broken) as he describes in his poem Slave Woman, `bound by ropes, led by chariot of the conqueror. Shamed and debased.' Slave Woman is a poem that every woman who has ever faced the degradation might be able to relate to. Yet, Mr. Brooke doesn't stop there, his depiction of war in Sea Raid, a gladiator's life, a Wiccan ceremony, and all manner of verse both teaches and delights a reader.
This excellent collection is separated into nine sections and brings to life various periods of history and beliefs.
I will not be a spoiler and give away anything further, but I highly recommend this book to any reader who has ever wondered about other times, people, and places.
I was struck by the profound images in these poems. They speak of such things as war, slavery, reincarnation, storms, eternity and death. They also touch on many ancient times in history. The book is divided into groups of poems with titles such as Dance of the Sun, Princess of the Lost Kingdom and The Dark Lady. I was especially drawn to the Viking poems Ride of the Valkyries and Sea Lord since I am currently working on a Viking book. Brooke captured in a few words the essence of what it took me pages to write.
One poem was about reincarnation and the relationship between two people in life after life. Here is the poem.
Life After Life
For 10,000 years I have sought your love,
As you have seen.
Once we lived in Babylon; I your slave,
You were Queen.
In Teotihuacan you were a temple maiden;
I my life cruelly lost.
Long ago, I carried you away, dear one,
When I raided the Saxon Coast.
But in old Ayuddha, you were warrior bold;
I was your whore.
You were so heartless then, so proud,
I don't read a lot of poetry, but I found that these poems spoke to me.
